Paso Robles boys earn soccer shut-out over the Knights

Paso Robles 6, St. Joseph 0

Bearcats football paso roblesThe Bearcat boys earned a league win on Tuesday, shutting out the St. Joseph Knights, 6-0 in soccer action.

Benjamin Premenko scored two goals and had one assist for Paso Robles. Myles Monge, Sergio Torres, Leonardo Anaya, and Aiden Kerr scored one goal apiece. Mauricio Mincitar, Daniel Zavala and Javier Solis each had an assist.

“Our defense had a solid game to secure a shut-out,” said Coach Omar McPherson.

The Bearcats are currently 8-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in PAC 8 league play.

Girls’ soccer

Paso Robles 2, St. Joseph 1

The Bearcat girls defeated the St. Joseph Knights, 2-1 in their first league match.

Madison Wineman scored the first goal, assisted by senior Sydnie Esser. The game-winning goal was scored by Jr. Alex Fletes, assisted by sophomore Atiana Stratman.

With the win, the Bearcats are 8-1 overall and 1-0 in PAC 8.

Boys’ basketball

Shandon 51, Kings Christian 37

The Shandon boys started 2017 with a 51-37 win Tuesday evening over the visiting Faith Christian Warriors.

The Outlaws will host the Warriors at home again Friday, Jan. 6 at 6 pm.

St. Joseph 63, Paso Robles 52

The Paso Robles boys lost a tough home game Tuesday night, with the reigning PAC 8 league champion St. Joseph Knights earning a 63-52 win over the Bearcats.

Sebastian Galsim led the Bearcats with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Gabe Linn chipped in 10 points and, according to Coach Derrick Jasper, was “a monster on the boards,” pulling down 11 rebounds.

Mason Wiesner grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three steals, Griffin Betancourt chipped in five points, and Dante Coletta had seven rebounds.

The Bearcats will host the San Luis Obispo Tigers Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.

Girls’ basketball

St Joseph 62, Paso Robles 45

On Tuesday, the Paso Robles girls lost an away game as the St. Joseph Knights earned a 62-45 win over the Bearcats.

The first quarter was the difference in the game, according to Coach Heidi Wittstrom Sill, with the Knights outscoring the Bearcats by 14 points. “The Bearcats played the remaining three quarters nearly even with the Knights, but were never able to recover from the first quarter,” said Wittstrom Sill.

Jayden Lowen was 8-9 from the free-throw line and had 12 points total for Paso Robles. Kim Buchanan scored 15 points and Sydney Meneses finished with 11.

With the loss, the Bearcats’ overall record is 4-7. The Paso Robles girls will travel to San Luis Obispo on Friday, Jan. 6 to play the Tigers at 7 p.m.

Girls’ water polo

Paso Robles 15, SLO 1

The Paso Robles girls started league play Tuesday with a 15-1 water polo win over the San Luis Obispo Tigers.

The Bearcats had seven different scorers, with Mackenzie Raymond leading the team with five goals. Miranda Pasky scored three points for Paso Robles, with Veronica Ayala and Tatiana Smeltzer scoring two apiece.
Lulu Root, according to Coach Grant East, was “almost perfect on the day, just letting the one goal in with 12 saves.”

The Bearcats will play in the Arroyo Grande Tournament this weekend; times vary. League play will continue next week with a home match against the Pioneer Valley Panthers on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 4 p.m.
