High school theatre company to present ‘Shakespeare in Love’

    – Paso Robles High School Theatre Company will present Shakespeare in Love (High School Edition), a stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film that imagines the young playwright’s creative struggles, romantic relationships, and the events that inspired one of his works.

Performances are scheduled for Dec. 5–7 and Dec. 12–14 at the Paso Robles High School Performing Arts Center.

Set in Elizabethan England, the play follows a young Will Shakespeare as he works through writer’s block until he meets Viola de Lesseps, a noblewoman who wants to act onstage, which was prohibited for women at the time. The story explores themes of love, ambition, and artistic expression.

The production is directed by Marcy Keyser-Goodnow and features Paso Robles High School students. According to Keyser-Goodnow, the show blends classical language with a modern rhythm.

“It’s a play about creativity, courage, and falling in love with the art of storytelling,” Keyser-Goodnow said. “Our students have embraced the challenge of balancing comedy, drama, and Shakespearean flair—it’s been inspiring to watch, and we can’t wait to share this story with our community.”

    Tickets are available online.

I attended this play last night. tt was wonderful. The acting was supurb. The lighting was great and, again, wow,can those kids act! They had great costumes.
I had fun comparing it to my run as an actress in the PRUHS school plays in the late 50’s. It was like comparing a penny to a silver dollar! Rae Ann Kastman Anderson
