High winds force power shutoff in parts of North County

Power shutoffs as of Saturday morning.

    – Pacific Gas and Electric warned that more customers in San Luis Obispo County will continue to experience public safety power shutoffs this weekend. The alert follows an ongoing outage that began Thursday afternoon in San Miguel, north of Estrella Road, and is expected to last through Saturday at 3 p.m.

The outage is part of a larger planned power shutoff affecting communities along Highway 101 and Highway 198 in Monterey County. The utility reported that the shutoffs are necessary due to high winds and dry conditions, which increase the risk of wildfires.

According to Pacific Gas and Electric, power will remain off until weather conditions improve. Once it is safe, crews will inspect power lines and equipment for possible damage before restoring electricity. The company’s outage map lists the estimated restoration time as 3 p.m. on June 21.
