Highway 1 realignment at Piedras Blancas underway
A project to realign a nearly three-mile segment of Highway 1 from Point Piedras Blancas to the Arroyo De La Cruz Bridge near San Simeon continues with the construction of new bridges and grading for the new travel lanes, Caltrans reports.
Most of the construction during this project will take place adjacent to the existing highway, but motorists may encounter occasional daytime lane closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. with delays not to exceed ten minutes. This project is a result of coastal erosion along this segment of State Route 1.
The contractor for this $19.7 million project is Papich Construction of Grover Beach, CA. This project is expected to be complete by the winter of 2018.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
