Highway 58 resurfacing project continues east of Santa Margarita
Stage one of the project currently underway
– A project to preserve pavement on Highway 58 from Santa Margarita to Highway 229 continues with shoulder widening work, according to Caltrans. The project also includes drainage improvements, pedestrian facilities, and additional widening.
Stage one of the project is underway between H Street in Santa Margarita and the junction of Highway 58 with Pozo Road. The roadway in this section is narrowed to two 10-foot lanes with no shoulder. A 24-hour speed limit of 25 mph is in place. Bicycles are permitted through the area and share the two lanes.
Stage two of the construction will begin in early October. Traffic will again be under reversing control with the 25-mph speed limit. This stage will provide 11-foot lanes in each direction with no shoulder, and bicyclists will continue to share the lanes. Stage two is scheduled to last through mid-November.
Caltrans asks travelers to observe posted speed limits and use caution while traveling through the construction zone.
