Officers will target impaired, distracted, and speeding drivers

    – The California Highway Patrol announced it will begin a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period at 6:01 p.m. Saturday, with officers focusing on impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and other dangerous behaviors.

The announcement comes after a recent fatal collision involving an impaired driver in the region.

The Highway Patrol also noted that on June 16, Templeton-area officers joined more than 200 law enforcement officers who were recognized at the Tri-County Mothers Against Drunk Driving Awards for their efforts to remove impaired drivers from roadways.

According to the Highway Patrol, the recent fatal collision and the recognition ceremony highlight what the agency described as a continuing problem with impaired driving.

“Impaired driving is still taking lives, and it cannot continue,” the agency said in a statement.

The Highway Patrol said officers throughout California will participate in the enforcement effort.

In the Templeton area, the Highway Patrol will deploy additional patrol resources, including aircraft, to help identify and stop dangerous driving behaviors.

“Our objective is to prevent another tragedy before it occurs,” the agency said.

The Highway Patrol urged motorists to slow down, wear seat belts, avoid driving while impaired, and make safe decisions behind the wheel.
