Historic fashion shows support Hearst Castle preservation, education

Events will be held at The Monday Club

    – The Foundation at Hearst Castle and The Monday Club of San Luis Obispo are partnering to present two fashion shows on Saturday, Oct. 4, to support historic preservation and education programs. Both organizations were designed by Julia Morgan, California’s first licensed female architect.

The events will be held at The Monday Club and will feature garments from the Hearst Castle Living History Collection along with rare pieces from private collections. Emmy Award-winning journalist Jane Wells and community leader Robin Smith will emcee the shows.

“This event beautifully demonstrates how community, history, and philanthropy can come together to create lasting impact,” said Doug Jenzen, executive director of the Foundation at Hearst Castle. “Funds raised will help conserve two rare 17th-century Peruvian tapestries and keep Hearst Castle’s treasures ready to inspire future generations.”

Dawn Turner, president of The Monday Club board of directors, said, “Partnering with the Foundation is a natural fit. Julia Morgan’s vision continues to unite our organizations, and this event allows us to celebrate her legacy while supporting the preservation of history.”

Proceeds will also support free student field trips for Title 1 schools across San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Kern, Kings, Fresno and San Benito counties, with the goal of expanding into Santa Barbara County. The programs allow thousands of students each year to visit Hearst Castle and San Simeon State Park for lessons in history, art and environmental education.

Guests at the fashion shows will also have opportunities to support conservation and education efforts while enjoying local wine inside the historic Monday Club.

Tickets and sponsorships are available at themondayclubslo.org and foundationathearstcastle.com/events.
