Sherman’s Legacy Flight returns to Paso Robles on June 6
– Honor Flight Central Coast California will host Sherman’s Legacy Flight on June 6 at 10 a.m. at the Estrella Warbirds Museum in Paso Robles.
The event honors the legacy of Sherman Smoot, a Navy veteran, aviator, and advocate for veterans. According to the organization, Smoot piloted Betsy’s Biscuit Bomber out of the Paso Robles Airport during the inaugural local “Tour of Honor” flight, carrying 18 veterans who were unable to travel to Washington, D.C.
This year marks the fourth annual Betsy’s Biscuit Bomber flight. Organizers said the Douglas C-47 Skytrain will carry 14 veterans and four additional passengers on a one-hour flight along the Central Coast coastline before returning to the Paso Robles Airport.
The organization encouraged residents in areas including Camp San Luis, Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria, and Lake Nacimiento to look for the aircraft between 11 a.m. and noon on June 6.
“If you are out and about on Saturday, June 6th, between 11 am and noon near Camp San Luis, Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria or Nacimiento Lake and hear the beautiful sound of a fully restored Douglas C-47 Skytrain overhead, please look up, wave, and salute those amazing men and women flying above,” organizers said in a statement. “It is a small gesture of gratitude for the sacrifices they made so we can enjoy the freedoms and beauty of the Central Coast today.”
