Historical Society to discuss Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro legacy in Paso Robles

History & Wine at Paso Robles History Museum

An evening of history and wine at the Paso Robles History Museum

    – Join the El Paso de Robles Area Historical Society on October 17 and learn how the Parícutin volcano set a journey of resilience into motion. The volcano’s eruptions from 1943 to 1952 eventually destroyed the village of San Juan Parangaricutiro in Michoacán, Mexico. The eruptions forced the inhabitants to leave and form a new town, Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro. In the decades that followed, families from the new town began migrating to the United States. Drawn by opportunities, many brought their deep sense of community and strong family ties to Paso Robles.

Yessenia Echeverria, founder of Mujeres de Acción, shares the circumstances and adventures experienced by the families on their journeys to start new lives in Paso Robles. Echeverria relates the inspiring stories of faith, resilience, new roots, and community.

The event starts with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. featuring wine tasting by Ulloa Cellars, charcuterie by Ryan Swathout, and the opportunity to speak with winemaker Nancy Ulloa.

The 6:15 p.m. presentation by Yessenia Echeverria is followed by a Q&A session, and more socializing and wine tasting.

The Evenings of History & Wine are in keeping with the Paso de Robles Area Historical Society, which is to collect, preserve, and promote Paso Robles’ history through exhibits, research, and educational efforts.

The event is Friday, October 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Paso Robles History Museum, 800 12th Street, Paso Robles. $20 per person at the door. RSVP to Grace Pucci, (805) 712-6361 or pasohistory1@gmail.com.
