Promoted article

–The holidays are upon us and that means a lot of shopping, which means a lot of walking. Are you feet ready? Will you be saying, “Feet don’t fail me now?” On an average day, most people take 10,000 steps, or cover about four miles. Add a few miles of mall walking to this, while carrying all those packages and you feet can really let you down.

Don’t put off that visit to the podiatrist until after the pain starts. Many times, little things like modifying the shoes’ insoles or changing shoe styles is all that is needed for comfortable feet. Nail care is also important for preventing problems in the first place and for curing the problem after in occurs. Preventing a problem is preferable, especially during the holidays when the feet take a lot of extra abuse.

Don’t ignore your feet. Take good care of them and they will take care of you.

Dr. Thornhill has been serving the North County since 1989, helping people solve and recover from all kinds of pain and problems with their feet, including:

  • Ingrown toenails, fungal toenails, hammertoes, bunions, calluses, corns, athlete’s foot
  • Heel and arch pain
  • Ankle sprains and fractures
  • In-toed or out-toes gait, pronation or supination
  • Diabetic foot care
  • Specialized foot care for senior citizens
  • Orthotics to improve the comfort and efficiency of the feet.
  • Podiatric medicine and early detection of foot problems that can be early warning signs of systemic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid imbalance, or poor circulation.

Most treatments are done in the office or on an outpatient basis.

The foot is a marvel of engineering. Its 26 bones fit together so intricately that it is able to support as much as three times the body’s weight in daily activities. But even the most sophisticated pieces of equipment need routine care and maintenance. Regular foot exams by a doctor of podiatric medicine are the best insurance for pain free activity in the years ahead.

Podiatrists are medical doctors who have been trained in systemic diseases and whole body medicine and specializing in medical and surgical care of the foot and ankle. In our age of specialization, doesn’t it make sense to take your foot and ankle problems to a podiatrist?
