Local shelter helps 353 individuals secure housing in 2024

Over 3,000 volunteers contributed their time in 2024 by providing nightly meals, mentoring, and other support

    – El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) announced that it assisted 353 individuals and families in securing stable housing in 2024. The organization attributed this achievement to its emergency shelter programs, homelessness prevention services, and outreach efforts.

Of those housed, 256 individuals were supported through the homeless shelter’s emergency shelter and outreach programs, including the 90-day emergency shelter program. This program provides case management and tailored housing plans for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Additionally, homelessness prevention services helped 97 individuals and families avoid displacement by providing direct aid, case management, and resource navigation.

“Our success this year is a testament to the power of community and collaboration,” said Wendy Lewis, CEO of ECHO. “Whether it’s our dedicated volunteers, our compassionate staff, or our supportive partners, everyone plays a crucial role in ensuring individuals and families have the opportunity to rebuild their lives. Together, we are creating pathways to hope and stability.”

The homeless shelter’s street outreach programs in Atascadero and Paso Robles connected individuals living unsheltered to essential services throughout the county. Over 3,000 volunteers contributed their time in 2024 by providing nightly meals, mentoring, and other support.

The homeless shelter operates two facilities with a total capacity of 130 beds, including a 60-bed facility in Atascadero and a 70-bed facility in Paso Robles. It also provides a daily community dinner program and a shower program for individuals and families in San Luis Obispo County.

Founded in 2001, the homeless shelter’s mission is to empower individuals and families to make positive changes by offering food, shelter, and supportive services. For more information, visit www.echoshelter.org.
