Honor Flight Central Coast recognizes Templeton Market & Deli
Next local flight to memorial in D.C. lifts off in May
Earlier this month, Templeton Market & Deli was recognized by Honor Flight Central Coast California for their support. Bear McGill of HFCCC dropped by the Market to present Abby Allen and the crew with a plaque that read “The veterans and members of Honor Flight Central Coast California salute and thank you for your generous support.”
Included in that support, was the preparation and donation of in-flight meals for the veterans, HFCCC volunteers, and crew for a recent flight to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. as well as the food for a “meet and greet” for the veterans, family members, and support crew prior to the flight.
HFCCC provides a regional hub that serves the veterans of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Their inaugural, three day Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. took off from San Luis Obispo Regional Airport on May 13, 2014. Since then, the group has continued to raise funds and support for each new flight of veterans in the quest to make it possible for all WWII vets to visit their memorial in D.C.
The next flight is scheduled to take off on Monday, May 4 and return on Wednesday, May 6 with 20 veterans, 20 guardians, and 3 support persons. The estimated cost is $56,000. Donations are still needed.
HFCCC meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 66 in San Luis, located behind the Veterans Memorial Building at 801 Grand Ave. Meetings are open to the public. Food is available for purchase at 5:15 p.m.
