Hospice invites the public to ‘Light up a Life’

light up a life cancer support– Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice SLO County) invites the public to honor the memories of loved ones during the 34th annual Light Up A Life Remembrance Ceremonies. The community is invited to help shine a light at any one of eight Hospice SLO County remembrance ceremonies throughout the county. The holidays symbolize a time when friends and family gather in celebration. It can also be a difficult and emotional time for those grieving a loss. Light Up A Life is an annual event that offers the community an opportunity to come together to honor and remember loved ones who may no longer be here but will never be forgotten.

“Light Up A Life Remembrance Ceremonies offer a time to gather together as a community as we recall memories and celebrate loved ones,” says Kris Kington-Barker, Executive Director of Hospice SLO County. “These ceremonies bring comfort and healing to someone dealing with a loss, especially during the holidays.”

The community is invited to participate by purchasing a lantern to illuminate the memory of a loved one or to honor someone living. The name will be read at the Light Up A Life Remembrance Ceremony selected. Those wishing to donate directly to Hospice SLO County as part of their end-of-year giving can choose that option when donating to Light Up A Life.

This year, Remembrance Ceremonies will be held in Pismo Beach (Dec. 2), Nipomo (Dec. 3), San Luis Obispo (Dec. 4), Morro Bay (Dec. 5), Atascadero (Dec. 6), Arroyo Grande (Dec. 6), Paso Robles (Dec. 7), and “Paws to Remember” Pet Remembrance Ceremony (SLO, Dec. 10).

“Even though my father died a few years ago, hearing his name read was a profound experience,” says Mary, a local community member who attended the Remembrance Ceremony in Arroyo Grande last year. “I plan to invite my family to attend this year because I think it’s important to make time to remember and cherish his memory.”

Now celebrating their 40th anniversary, Hospice SLO County has provided crucial services to individuals and families coping with life-limiting illness, grief or loss throughout the county since 1977. All donations to Light Up A Life are tax-deductible and support Hospice SLO County to ensure the best quality for those who seek their services.
