Intermittent closures of portion of Highway 101 scheduled Thursday

CalTrans.

–The northbound lane of US Highway 101 will be fully closed intermittently near Lockwood on Thursday morning, Sept. 26. These closures will allow Caltrans to replace a temporary concrete barrier in front of the protective bridge rail and guardrail that was damaged in a recent traffic incident. The southbound lanes of US 101 will remain open.

There will be three intermittent full closures of Northbound US 101 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Each of these full closures are expected to last 20 to 30 minutes with all closures completed by 12 noon. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be present to maintain a safe environment for travelers. Electronic message boards will alert everyone about these closures.

This northbound section of highway has already been reduced to one open lane due to ongoing construction. A full intermittent highway closure is necessary to install the temporary concrete barrier and crash cushion. This construction project includes a resurfacing of US 101 from San Lucas to south of the Paris Valley Road Undercrossing.

The contractor for this $25 million project is Papich Construction of Arroyo Grande, CA. This project is expected to be complete in October 2020.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
