International scholar Thomas Hahn to speak at Estrella Warbirds Museum dinner

– The Estrella Warbirds Museum will host its monthly dinner on Sept. 3 with guest speaker Thomas Hahn, an international scholar whose career has included teaching and research across several continents. Hahn will speak about the history of German aviation in China during the 1930s and 1940s.
Hahn studied at Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, where he trained in Chinese studies, historical geography, European philosophy, cultural anthropology and German literature. He spent three years in China in the mid-1980s for post-graduate studies and teaching before returning to Germany to pursue a Ph.D. at Heidelberg University’s Institute for Chinese Studies.
After moving to the U.S., Hahn served as an independent scholar at Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning and co-taught courses at the University of California, Berkeley. He has received multiple grants and awards, served as president of international library associations, and led delegations to the U.S. and China.
He has also worked as a translator for the German embassy in Beijing, served on the boards of several learned societies, edited three journals, organized international conferences, curated exhibitions, and occasionally acted as a consultant to the Chinese municipalities of Tianjin and Hangzhou. His upcoming co-authored book addresses equity and environmental policy issues for future generations.
The Sept. 3 dinner will be catered. Reservations are required by 6 p.m. on Sept. 1. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host bar, and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
