Update: Ironic typo on school district sign draws ridicule

Update, 8:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 14, 2019:

As of early Monday morning, a strip of white tape had been placed over a misspelled school district motto on a sign at War Memorial Stadium.

Original report:

A sign on a new scoreboard at War Memorial Stadium at Flamson Middle School is drawing criticism in the community.

It says, “Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, The District of Excellenece,” ironically misspelling “excellence.”

The sign with the typo is at the southwest corner of War Memorial Stadium, on 24th Street near Vine Street.

The scoreboard was installed late last year by a Fresno County sign company, according to reports.

Residents took to the Facebook group “Paso Robles Now” to voice their frustration:

Kim Lachance: “You would think if Paso Schools wanted to be known as The District of Excellence they would know how to spell it. Yep folks this is on the ‘NEW’ scoreboard and the sign with the misspelling is right on 24th St. Aren’t we proud?”

Lynne Newhouse: “Horrifying, so tacky, didn’t anyone go out and check the sign after it was hung?”

Flamson Middle School Principal Gene Miller replied to the comments, saying, “the district is aware of the issue and is working with the contractor to fix it.”
