    J. Lohr Estates cabernet sauvignon earns sustainability seal

    J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines has announced that its newly released 2022 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon will feature the Certified California Sustainable seal on its back label. The designation, administered by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, signifies that a wine is made with at least 85% grapes from certified sustainable vineyards, produced in a certified sustainable winery, and made entirely with grapes grown in California.

The addition of the seal highlights a milestone for J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, with more than 36 of its wines, totaling over 20 million bottles in 2025, now carrying the Certified California Sustainable designation.

“The Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing logo on J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates that sustainable winegrowing practices can be applied at scale while meeting stringent environmental, social, and economic standards,” said Allison Jordan, executive director of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.

The 2022 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is now available nationally and internationally at retailers, restaurants, and online. Additionally, the wine is offered in reusable stainless-steel kegs for on-premise use to reduce packaging waste and carbon emissions.

    J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines incorporates environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic feasibility into its operations. The company has reduced its water usage in vineyards by up to 15% since 2010 through deficit irrigation and aquifer monitoring. At its Paso Robles winery, water use has decreased from 3.5 gallons to 1.3 gallons per gallon of wine produced. Solar energy powers much of the company’s operations, with an 84% energy supply from solar panels in Paso Robles and nearly 100% from solar energy in Greenfield, Monterey County.

    J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines has held Certified California Sustainable Vineyard & Winery status since 2010. The company was awarded the Green Medal Leader Award in 2020 and received the Sustainability Leadership Award from the Business Intelligence Group in 2024.

“Sustainable winemaking has been at the heart of J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines since our father Jerry Lohr planted our first estate vineyard in Monterey County over 50 vintages ago,” said Steve Lohr, co-owner, president, and CEO. “We are incredibly proud of this milestone for our classic J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon.”

Founded by Jerry Lohr, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines is a family-owned winery with more than 4,000 acres of certified sustainable vineyards across Monterey County, Paso Robles, and St. Helena in Napa Valley. The winery produces eight tiers of wines, including J. Lohr Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, J. Lohr Cuvée Series, J. Lohr Vineyard Series, and J. Lohr Estates. The California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance is a non-profit organization promoting sustainable practices in the wine industry. The organization implements the Sustainable Winegrowing Program and administers the Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing certification.
