Justin Vineyards & Winery awards $50,000 to North County classrooms, 2017

Justin School Grants, a program of Justin Vineyards & Winery, announced that $50,000 has been awarded to 44 classrooms in the North San Luis Obispo County area. The classroom projects receiving funding range from the purchase of new books and art supplies, to an educational field trip to Hearst Castle. In total, Justin School Grants will benefit nearly 6,000 students across 15 schools.

The Justin School Grants program kicked off earlier this year, when $50,000 was donated to recognize and further the efforts of Justin employees, who frequently volunteer their time and contribute generously to local schools. The program returned in October 2017 and will now be available to teachers each fall. “It’s been truly heartwarming to see how receptive local educators have been to our school grants program,” said Matt Steel, General Manager of Justin Vineyards & Winery. “We’re committed to giving back to the North County community and supporting education, and we look forward to continuing this program in the years to come.”

One awardee was a special education classroom at Pat Butler Elementary in Paso Robles. Funds were used to purchase a sound system and tambourines for dance class. “Through dance, children develop spatial awareness, become less clumsy and pay more attention to others sharing their space,” said teacher Yvette Madrigal. “You are investing in many kids’ lives and allowing them to develop more fully, not to mention all the smiles and fun that will be taking place!”

Justin School Grants is the second grants program initiated by Justin, which has also offered the Justin Community Grants Program since 2013. Justin Community Grants provides $100,000 to support North County nonprofits and will begin accepting the next round of applications in January 2018.
