‘Kindness Corner’ to debut at Mid-State Fair this year
Project was inspired by a proposal developed by Skye Davis, 2025 Miss California Mid-State Fair Queen
– The California Mid-State Fair will introduce the Kindness Corner, a space designed to provide children and families with a place to relax during Kids Day at the fair.
The Kindness Corner will be located inside the Flower Building and will debut on Friday, July 24. Fair officials said the space will provide a quiet area focused on kindness, inclusion, and well-being where families can take a break during their visit.
The project was inspired by a Fair Proposal developed by Skye Davis, the 2025 Miss California Mid-State Fair Queen, as part of her participation in the Miss California Mid-State Fair Scholarship Pageant.
The scholarship pageant challenges contestants to develop ideas intended to enhance the fair experience. Through her proposal, Davis identified an opportunity to create a space where children and families could pause before returning to other fair activities.
“I wanted to create a space where children and families could slow down, recharge, and feel supported during their Fair visit,” Davis said. “It’s exciting to see this idea come to life and provide a place where guests can take a break and enjoy a moment of calm during a busy day at the Fair.”
Courtney Lucas, director of the Miss California Mid-State Fair Scholarship Pageant, said the proposal demonstrated how contestants can contribute ideas for fairgoers.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of the Scholarship Pageant is seeing contestants develop ideas that can positively impact Fair guests,” Lucas said. “Skye recognized an opportunity to create a welcoming space for families, and we’re excited to see her vision brought to life during this year’s Fair.”
Kids Day will take place Friday, July 24. Children ages 12 and under will receive free admission to the fair. Families can also attend exhibits, livestock displays, carnival rides, games, live entertainment, and other activities throughout the fairgrounds.
The Miss California Mid-State Fair Scholarship Pageant provides scholarship opportunities, leadership development, and community engagement experiences for young women throughout San Luis Obispo County. Contestants compete in interview, talent, evening gown, final question, and Fair Proposal categories. Scholarship awards are presented to the queen, princesses, and several special award recipients.
The public is invited to attend the scholarship pageant on Wednesday, July 15, at 6 p.m. on the 805 Frontier Stage at the south end of the fairgrounds.
The California Mid-State Fair will take place July 15-26. Additional information, tickets, schedules, and promotions are available at www.midstatefair.com.
