– Jazz pianist Larry Fuller, known for his energetic performances and skillful blend of jazz styles, is set to perform at Libretto on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Fuller, an acclaimed Yamaha artist, will bring his trio to Libretto at 1242 Park St., offering an evening of jazz ranging from bop to stride, swing, and blues. Tickets are available at librettopaso.com or by calling (805) 369-2144.
Fuller’s background includes years spent performing with prominent jazz figures such as vocalist Ernestine Anderson, drummer Jeff Hamilton, guitarist John Pizzarelli, and bassist Ray Brown. His style, characterized by rhythmic energy and expressive improvisation, draws from his experiences on the bandstand and his deep-rooted connection to jazz traditions.
“He brings vitality. He swings hard, and I like that!” Brown once said of Fuller. According to the New York Times, Fuller “sprinkles stardust on whatever song he plays,” and Downbeat writer Mark Sheldon stated, “For anyone steeped in jazz, it just can’t get much better.”
During the Paso Robles performance, Fuller will present a selection of works from the Great American Songbook, jazz, blues, and pop standards, including music by Stevie Wonder, Oscar Peterson, Wes Montgomery, Ray Brown, George Gershwin, and Joni Mitchell. Joining Fuller on stage will be bassist Lorin Cohen, who has played with Monty Alexander, Joe Locke, and Steven Wilson, and drummer Carmen Intorre Jr., known for his work with Pat Martino and Joey DeFrancesco.
Fuller’s career has included appearances at notable venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Kennedy Center, and the Blue Note locations in Milan, Tokyo, and New York City.
