Letter: America must not tolerate weapons of war used on citizens
To the editor,
– I was 8 years old when the United States was forced into WWII. I still remember the atrocities I heard about in Europe on movie newsreels, and now I am seeing more in our own nation. In 1992, the Chemical Weapons Convention banned the use of tear gas in armed conflict, but recently it was used in Chicago on streets where children were preparing for a Halloween parade. This is beyond unacceptable. Why is a gas banned from warfare being allowed to be sprayed on American children?
With millions of protestors on the streets for No Kings Day, why aren’t we storming the capital and doing more than silent protests? Trump himself got away with an insurrection on Jan 6, 2020. Please make your voices heard loud and clear – at least write your Congress members and beg them to do something!

I agree it’s unfortunate that it was used but the protesters are perpetuating violence and needed to be subdued in a non lethal manner therefore the use of teargas.
Because that law came with an exemption for use by law enforcement for riot and crowd control.
To Kirk and Tommy – you boys are lost in MAGA propaganda and have no real thoughts. You believe in Authoritarian control of protesters- Get a life of your own maybe one day? Janet you are a champion and a believer in democracy,
A champion and activist that does not do research. Speaking MAGA I think we just won another big one in Asia. What are your thoughts on that? I have been involved in international trade for over 25 years; would be interesting to hear your thoughts.
Janet, How right you are! Let’s see, protesting non-violently is “perpetuating violence”? A large group singing, dancing, chanting, with signs, in funny costumes like inflatable frogs and unicorns….as protest against the current authoritarian regime is the most American activity there is! And protesting the illegal detention of people without due process? Trying to protect them? Read the First Amendment please. What would you have done to the original Tea Partiers throwing British tea into Boston Harbor, protesting taxation without representation? Shoot them?
