Letter: Candidate has the right experience for school board
– As a parent with one child remaining in PRJUSD, and two who have graduated, I’m writing to endorse Tracy Dauterman for the School Board position in Area 7. I collaborated with Tracy over a decade ago when she was with Justin Winery, and found her to be very smart, incisive, and easy to work with. Given her savvy and business acumen, I wasn’t surprised to learn Tracy had a successful career in business management and consulting before moving to Paso Robles. Over the ensuing years, I’ve watched as she’s stepped back to raise her kids, return to school to earn her MBA, and spent countless hours as a PTA president and Volunteer. Tracy is a frequent presence at school board meetings and is well-versed in current issues facing the board. No doubt she’s highly qualified for the position.
By why Mrs. Dauterman instead of the incumbent, Kenney Enney? Mr. Enney is an impressive individual, but I believe he’s wrong for this position. Tracy has kids in Paso Robles schools and a vested interest in the outcome, while Mr. Enney sent his kids to private schools. Tracy believes in the promise and future of public education, while Mr. Enney seems to resent it.
When offered an endorsement from the Paso Robles Public Educators, Mr. Enney turned it down, citing their, “wildly radical anti-American and anti-family beliefs,” and, “the stance many of your members have taken against Veterans and active duty military…” Mr. Enney certainly is not obligated to accept any endorsements, but the sentiment expressed in his letter is just plain strange, and his disdain for teachers is troubling. I believe in our teachers and their integrity, and I know Tracy does too.
There are many challenges ahead for our school district, including budgetary concerns and inadequate test scores. We need to do better, and I know we can. I believe Tracy has the business smarts, budgeting experience, knowledge of our school system, and temperament to do so, all without the unnecessary baggage.
Respectfully,
John Morris
Paso Robles parent and resident
