Letter: Could Paso Robles have a sister city in China?
– Paso Robles is a Sister City with both Gaiole, Italy, and Tarnów, Poland, resulting in beautiful relationships with cultural exchange and opportunities for economic development. The exchange with Tarnow has given our community the Paderewski Festival, held most recently just a few weeks ago, and which connects young pianists and highlights the cities’ shared historical ties to composer and statesman Ignacy Jan Paderewski. The sister city relationship with Gaiole has resulted in Eroica California, an event stemming from a common love in both cities for cycling and wine. Could Paso Robles also have a sister city relationship with a city in China?
China also has regions that are well-known for their wine production; surely our community of Paso Robles stands to discover much, in a people-to-people relationship, from the ancient cultures and modern life of China, and certainly we have much to share of the beauty and history of our region.
Our town already has connections to the Sister City movement. In 2016, the Northern and Southern California Chapters of California Sister Cities came together for the first statewide meeting, in Paso Robles. Let’s talk to our Paso Robles City Council Members about the possibility of a Sister City relationship with a city in China, building towards a relationship founded in peace, cultural exchange, and mutual economic development!

Sounds like a wonderful idea – but only if Xi Jinping comes to Paso for signing ceremony.
China is buying up all the wineries right here already. Maybe we can
be the step-sister city!
China is not our friend, and currently the Chinese government is suspected of a movement to buy up an alarming amount of US farmland, especially when close to military bases. The Chinese steal our technical and corporate secrets, spy on our politicians like Eric Smalwell who is running for Governor of California, send weather balloons across the US to gather information, and are most probably the cause of the Covid epidemic which spread to the US from China. They are also responsible for the enormous amount of fentynal sent to Mexico who then smuggles it into the US and kills thousands of Americans, mainly young people, each year.
Why would we invite them specifically to Paso Robles. Any group coming here would be controlled and directed by the Chinese Communist Party? And the Chinese Communist Party government of China is not our friend.
