Letter: Debate needs specifics, not general claims

    letter to the editor

    To the editor,

    – It is rather common for writers from the left to make unsubstantiated charges. If you feel your freedoms are being eroded, state which ones, and in what ways? If you think deporting illegal aliens is wrong, state why?

The more specific you can be with your charges, the better the debate can be per the 1st Amendment. Looking forward to serious discussion.

    -James Shepard, Paso Robles

The bias shown by how the issue is framed eliminates the potential that any answer, other than one the writer agrees with, matters. Voting rights were lost by all Americans due to Citizens United. Elimination of autonomy of independent government offices hurts free speech. Now it’s not free, it is incredibly expensive unless you agree with the current President. Universities across the nation have slashed graduate schools due to funding losses based upon the false pretext of Antisemitism. If you want to understand how out of wack the Administration is as to free speech consult that leftist liberal Ted Cruz. It ain’t close, Stevie Wonder can see the the losses of speech & freedoms. The real point to recognize is that it doesn’t matter a wit to supporters of the current President because his attacks are aimed at “the enemy” those liberal leftists.

barry k – I agree with this 100%. Voting rights such as mail-in-ballots, early voting, rules on registration are some of the ways the current “leaders” want to make voting more difficult, thus resulting in more people not bothering to vote Redrawing districts in the middle of a decade in order to win more elections is another way of telling people that their vote does not count.
It is too bad that there are many who can not, or refuse, to see how these all add up to only one conclusion – the current president will do anything and everything to crerate a mess of the mid-terms and to attempt to stay in power after 2028.
