Letter: Fantastic turnout for Optimist Club Spelling Bee

To the editor,

Saturday, Oct. 27 was a lovely day in downtown Paso Robles for the Honey Oak Festival. The Paso Robles Optimist Club held their 5th annual spelling bee. Organized by past club president Bill Pluma, the club hosted 3rd graders from Virginia Peterson, Bauer Speck, and Pat Butler.

Elementary Schools This was the largest number of contestants in the five years since sponsoring the spelling bee. The third graders had been prepping for the past few weeks with help from their teachers. The demand was so great, a second session was added.

First place was a new bicycle donated by Walmart. The club would like to thank its many sponsors who provided a free lunch and prizes for every participant. Sponsors included El Pollo Loco, Yogurt Creations, Taco Bell, Chipotle, doTerra and Kennedy Club Fitness.
