Letter: Homeless should be removed to protect residents, tourists
To the editor,
The city is becoming unsafe due to the homeless population. A large number of homeless live in groups throughout the river bottom. I don’t understand why the city leaders do not empower the police to remove the homeless population from encampments in the city limits. Building an area for them to live adjacent to the city will only attract a larger homeless population. They should be removed from city limits to protect residents and tourists.
Many of the homeless have mental health and substance abuse issues that must be resolved before they can be responsible for themselves. Perhaps these are the people the state should provide funding for services rather than illegals.
