Letter: League of Women Voters celebrates Women’s History Month

To the editor,Ecstatic dance participant responds to criticism

March is Women’s History Month. Every year we honor the women who fought for the right to vote and for equality under the law. We continue their work by fighting voter suppression, registering a record number of voters to participate in our democracy, and expanding access to the ballot box in 2018 and beyond. This year more than ever women are in the forefront of political activism and social change. From the hundreds of women running for political office for the first time, to the Women’s March, to the #MeToo movement women are leading the way for social justice and making history.

This month the League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo County celebrates how far we’ve come while remembering how much yet needs to be done. We are registering new voters and augmenting civic education programs in our high schools. We are promoting civil participation in public life and respectful discourse at public meetings. This spring we will assist the public to become well informed by moderating candidate forums and providing information on the measures on the June 5 primary ballot. If you would like the League to provide a moderator for a candidates’ forum contact us at (805) 782-4040 or info@lwvslo.org.

Join us in the fight to make democracy work for everyone.
