Letter: Magic wont repair our streets

To the editor,

It takes money to repair our streets. The sensible tax proposed by Measure K and directed toward street repair by Measure N will provide funds to accelerate the many street repair projects begun 6 years ago. We were frustrated to see our streets neglected and allowed to deteriorate. That has been reversed. Through the wisdom of the voters in passing the tax increase in 2012 and leadership of the City Council streets and roads are getting paved. It is great to see and feel smooth surfaces, well-marked with bikeways and pedestrian crossings. With additional funds more streets will see improvement. It will be our job as citizens to insure that once Measure K passes, funds are used to bring all our streets back to good serviceable condition. These funds are not to be used for new development but to bring back existing streets. Streets that we can be proud of will not come by magic. They are expensive and require continual maintenance. Our streets will not be re-paved by a wished for Federal or State fund. We should all favor a reasonable V2 of 1 percent sales tax increase which will be paid by all persons who buy goods in Paso Robles and benefit from our streets and roads. Vote yes on Measures K and N. Chris Iversen Paso Robles
