Letter: A new hope for San Miguel

To the editor,

Twenty-one years ago I moved to San Miguel, Our community was quaint and peaceful. People knew each other, you could get lost at the post office just by running into an old friend. Our town is full of great, hardworking, workingclass people; which is why our CSD must be held to a high standard and adequately represent the good hardworking people of our community.

Our CSD since its foundation has been plagued by problems over the 18 years it’s been here. Three embezzlements, high general manager turnover, and empty promises. Does our CSD leadership reflect the hardworking residents of San Miguel, or does it add onto the negative biases we hear and face.

How many more embezzlements must our community endure? Why does it seem that so little has changed at our CSD over all those years, except for the rates suddenly skyrocketing.

It is time to put the trust and accountability back in our CSD and have a district that contributes to a better future for San Miguel, for that our CSD must have effective board leadership. As your elected official along with Mr. Palafox we can make our community thrive. I’m looking forward to revitalizing our downtown, and working to give resources to our sheriffs to make our streets safe. Best part is, take a look at our budget, for years we have had budget surpluses in the two most critical departments that can start to revitalize our community, and neither one of them involve the water or sewer funds. So why hasn’t there been a massive effort to adequately use those funds to make our town better? I also want to know why nothing has changed for the community since the two hearings on public safety over a year ago. Why does the budget not reflect finding resources for the sheriffs? Why did a funding proposal that would have given resources to the sheriffs die?

My opponent Mr. Sangster says he’s qualified, but being qualified doesn’t equal community betterment. I think his record speaks for itself, and the board’s actions speak for themselves after I saw firsthand what happened at the big water rate meeting in May and from reports of what happened at the June meeting. I respectfully ask that you vote for myself and Mr. Palafox in the November elections, so we can move forward on continuing to make our community a great place to live, that is led by a government agency that is held to highest standards possible, and actively listens to the public.

Cesar Hernandez- Candidate for San Miguel CSD
