Letter: Paso Robles campaign signs stolen

    letter to the editor

    – We were warned! On Aug. 24, Nathan Williams and Jim Cogan, Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board members, wrote to the Paso Robles Daily News, “We can disagree without being disagreeable” about defaced campaign signs. Illegal behavior continues.

Signs supporting local candidates Kris Beal (City Council) and Adelita Hiteshew (School Board) have been stolen or cut down on private property. There may be more occurrences. In several cases, signs were removed more than once! In addition, Harris/Walz campaign signs have been stolen in at least two cases, and in a third case, young white men harassed a Paso Robles homeowner about her Harris sign, then returned the next night to video her. Such attempted intimidation and destruction of property were discussed in a recent SLO Tribune article.

One property owner is submitting a police report.

The thieves think it is ok to deny others the Constitutional right to freedom of speech. The thieves think it is ok to trespass on private property. The thieves think it is ok to steal private property. The thieves think it is ok to damage private property. The thieves think it is ok to deny others legal election campaigning.

Law-abiding Americans should agree these actions are not ok! Parents, please tell your children such actions are not ok. Cogan and Williams ended their entreaty, “This is Paso Robles and we will not be divided, because we can disagree without being disagreeable.”
