Letter: Re-elect Nathan Williams, the right choice for Paso schools

    letter to the editor

    To the editor,

    – Do you want a snake pit or God’s Country for Paso schools? Re-elect Nathan Williams to Paso Robles School Board, District 3.

Mr. Williams lives the following values:

    • Honesty
    • Integrity
    • Lifetime of service to the Paso community
    • Leadership in a divided school board

When Mr. Williams learned that placing campaign materials in mailboxes was not allowed, he immediately stopped and took full responsibility for his actions. This is Honesty.

In the Oct. 22 Paso Robles Daily News article where Mr. Enney posted a formal complaint about this issue, Mr. Williams took the high road: “…I choose not to engage in any of the political rhetoric or attempts to smear others like this. Mr. Enney attempted to distract from the issues they are facing and sadly there is not a juicy story there.”

    This is integrity.

Please read the Sept. 28 Paso Robles Daily News article I submitted in support of Mr. Williams, where I discuss some of Mr. Williams many leadership positions over 18 years of Paso Robles community service, starting with a career as a Paso Robles firefighter, a job not for the faint of heart. This is service.

Then, there is Mr. Williams’ leadership as the Paso Robles School Board President for the last 2 years. As he has noted, the board represents a divided Paso Robles.

Even with this division, Mr. Williams found ways to accomplish many important things for our school district. See the Sept. 28, article for details. This is leadership.

When I recently spoke with a new community member, she explained that she joined “Next Door” to learn about her new community. I do not follow social media, so she asked me, “Why do community members hate each other so much?” She was appalled. And I suppose she wondered why anyone would live here. I assured her that such hate is not the norm.

Having grown up in SLO, I have always referred to SLO County as “God’s country.” But our Paso Robles governing bodies now seem to be snake pits.

Between the city manager’s $2.2M lawsuit against a city council member for years of harassment, and the allegation against Mr. Williams’ challenger, Mr. Breese for election fraud, it seems that the name, “snake-pit” fits us better than “God’s country.”

The public has asked if Mr. Breese’s relocation from his parents’ home in Area 5 a few weeks before campaigning for the Area 3 school board position, is election fraud based on if he actually lives in Area 3. He allegedly moved to the home (in Area 3) of the fiancée of Mr. Enney, who is running with him for the school board according to signs around town.

The obvious question others have posed is, “If Mr. Breese was interested in a school board position, why not run in the area where he lived?” Perhaps, it is because he would be running against another of his allies, Ms. McCoy. Such decisions require planning and collusion. I hope that DA Dow investigates this as a serious matter.

But, since Mr. Dow is also speaking at political events with Mr. Breese, he has at least the perception of a conflict of interest. A snake pit, indeed. Maybe someone should investigate Mr. Dow.

We are blessed to have Mr. Williams running for our school board among such dramas and controversies not of his making.

If you value honesty, integrity, a lifetime of service, and leadership, vote for Mr. Nathan Williams, for Area 3 School Board!

It should be noted that Mr. Breese stated “I signed a lease in May,” not “I have lived at that address since May.” And how interesting that the lease is for two years. Most leases are month-to-month, or six months, or a year. But two years? That’s unusual. But it is the length of term for serving on the school board. Hmmmm . . . .

As long as it was legal it is not important to me how Hunter decided to enter into and serve on the board but more to do with the failing school issues and how he intends to deal with them. Given the cultrual issues of today he will bring new reasonable thinking to improve our schools policies. Not sure why the comment relating to a snake pit but I am sure Hunter will promote the changes needed to improve our schools.
