Letter: Lady Liberty modeled on Muslim woman

    To the editor,
–Those agitated by what Bill O’Reilly of Fox News calls “The Dramatic Muslim Invasion” may find a soothing tonic in the history of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was modeled on a Muslim woman.Submit news of Letter to the editor

Our uniquely American icon beckoning the world’s refugees and immigrants to freedom on our shores was designed as a representation of an Egyptian peasant woman. As we confront the largest refugee crisis since WW II, which we helped create by invading Iraq and providing battle-field experience to Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI, the parent of ISIS), it may be wise to remind ourselves of the origin of the Statue of Liberty.

The statue, proposed as a gift to Egypt to commemorate the 1869 completion of the Suez Canal, was conceived and designed by two Frenchmen, including Gustave Eiffel the Eiffel Tower creator, as a colossal monument to the industrial achievement. After Egypt rejected the plan, the gift was offered to America as “Liberty Enlightening the World.” Erected in 1886, it stands as a beacon for a nation founded on principles transcending national origin, racial identity and religious affiliation.

What enlightenment. Wow! I can really be at peace now. What a historian. Really nice piece, bringing in the liberation of Iraq from tyranny and attempting to train their own people to handle their own problems. Good job bro! Now I can go huggy a big tree & feel warm & fuzzy. Can't wait for the next letter to editor. Wait, why the heck am I even reading this _ _ _ _ !

So what? That was almost 150 years ago and in case you missed it, we are being invaded by Muslims. Take off the blinders Broadwater, you're slice of heaven in Atascadero is not immune to this influx of unvetted refugees most of which are young men….

After what happened yesterday in San Bernardino by two Muslims and the husband was an American citizen, more may be in a cell there, we need to be thinking seriously about how any refugees come in. It's a far different situation today then at the end of WWII.

Still blaming Bush and not the real reason that we pulled out and left a huge vacuum. The real truth is that while most Muslims are decent peace loving people the Islamic Ideology is not. There is approximatly 109 verses in the Quran that call for violence against non believers of Islam. Example; chapter 8 verse 12: I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them. What a striking difference from: "Love your neighbor as yourself or Forgive those that trespass against you".

Attention, agitees: This is a non-story. The original statue was in celebration of the Suez Canal, not freedom for immigrants (re-read the linked article). The original model was veiled. The original idea was rejected by Egypt. The subsequent 'model' was a 'godess' fashioned after Greek and Roman sculpture as you can see by the facial features. The subsequent statue symbolized freedom and liberty in co-celebration of the French and American revolutions.
This should engender more loathing (not less) for a religion that is anti-freedom and anti-Christian. Remember, there is no New Testament ("love your enemies") in the Koran.
