Letter: Summer culinary camp inspires young home cooks

    letter to the editor

    To the editor,

    – “Mom, I need you to pick up these ingredients on your way home from work,” the message read and included a list of ingredients plus step-by-step instructions for mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and garlic bread.

My 11-year-old son has been attending the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District (PRJUSD) Culinary Camp for the past week and a half and, as a result, has quickly developed a sense of independence and a desire to cook at home.

This program, offered for free, has been nothing short of fantastic. He woke up at 6 am the other morning asking to make eggs for himself and his dad. He came home today with a cake and monkey bread he made with his partner (who happens to be his best friend).

I can’t speak highly enough of this program. Thank you, PRJUSD for making this course available to our kids during the summer. The sense of accomplishment and confidence it has built in a few short days is remarkable. We are so fortunate to have access to such a wonderful programming opportunity.

    Keep up the good work!

    Tracy Dauterman, Paso Robles
