Letter: Templeton shouldn’t allow fireworks
– How can the darling town of Templeton be so irresponsible?
During this year of extreme drought, with a fire last weekend near Santa Margarita, burning 1800 acres, six homes, two RV’s that were permanent homes, and costing 2.8 million dollars, Templeton continues to sell what they refer to as “Safe Fireworks.” When contacted, the reasoning is…”We have done this for years, and it benefits non-profits in the community.”
All it takes is one 12-year old with a sparkler, and we could have a repeat of the Hwy 41 Fire, when 37 homes were lost in a matter of 4 hours. There is a reason no other communities allow firework sales.
Please contact Jeff Briltz/Templeton Community Services District at (805) 434-4900 to voice your concern.

My question is, have you been to Templeton during the evening of 4th of July? It's been my experience that most of the firework activity takes place in the driveways of homes and in the streets. The approved fireworks, in my observation pose a minimal risk to starting any sort of fire if used properly. I'd rather see people be encouraged to use them properly and with supervision than for years of fun and tradition be extinguished….pun intended.
