Letter to the editor: Get rid of rodeo cruelty

letter to the editor
To the editor,

It is encouraging to read the article “California on its way to banning rodeos?” (Nov 16). A more caring society towards animals is hopeful and getting rid of rodeo cruelty is going in a positive direction.

Animals in rodeos are routinely subjected to a variety of torments including choking, roping, neck twisting, tail twisting, spurring, and electric shock to force performance. In Calf Roping, now euphemistically called Tie Down Roping, young calves are jerked backward by the neck with taut ropes after reaching speeds of 25 mph.

There is so much suffering in the world, let’s stop adding to it by using animals for entertainment at rodeos.
