Library book group reads 'The Music Shop'

Library continues musical-themed summer programming for local readers

    – The Paso Robles City Library will continue its summer of musical-themed programming with a book group discussion of The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce on July 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Registration is now open for the event. Copies of the book are available in regular print through the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, and digitally as an eBook and audiobook on the library’s Libby platform.

Set in 1988, The Music Shop follows Frank, the owner of a small, brightly lit record store on a dead-end street in a run-down suburb. Known for his ability to connect customers with the music they need, Frank’s routine is interrupted when Ilse Brauchmann, a young woman, asks him to teach her about music.

As Frank struggles with his fear of closeness and unresolved issues from his past, his connection with Ilse deepens. The novel explores the emotional journey of two individuals working to overcome personal obstacles through the healing power of music.

The Paso Robles City Library invites community members to join the discussion and participate in the ongoing summer programming. For more information, visit the library’s website or contact library staff.
