Library cinema club to screen ‘The Shop Around the Corner’

    – The Paso Robles City Library Cinema Club will host an in-person film screening, discussion, and snacks on the fourth Friday of every month, with the next event scheduled for Friday, Dec. 19, at the Paso Robles City Library.

The event is set for 2 to 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time in the library’s Story Hour Room, and is open to adults.

The featured film is director Ernst Lubitsch’s “The Shop Around the Corner” (1940, 1 hour, 39 minutes). The film follows Klara Novak, played by Margaret Sulavan, and Alfred Kralik, played by Jimmy Stewart, employees at a general store in Budapest who are often at odds. Both write to pen pals as a distraction from work, and the film centers on their relationship as they fall for their pen pals without realizing they are writing to each other.
