    Library hosting cryptography-themed scavenger hunt

    – The Paso Robles City Library will host a cryptography-themed scavenger hunt from Aug. 19-30.

Participants can pick up clues at the circulation desk that will guide them through a timed adventure across the library’s bookshelves, concluding at the reference desk.
The event registration page gives the following overview of the challenge:

    Situation overview:

One of our Field Agents, A371, has gone missing. Their assignment was to report to the Reference Desk librarian (another one of our agents) on their investigation of a project being undertaken by the radical anti-library group B.A.D. (Books Are Dumb). We last heard from Agent A371 two weeks ago; their last message to us was simply the encrypted document and the photographic clues that you’ll find in this dossier. We believe that Agent A371 was able to encrypt the message that they had for the reference desk librarian using the books in the library before they went missing.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

First, locate the book that the photographic clues in this dossier are hinting at, then decode the encrypted document to reveal the secret message at the end. Report that message to our agent at the reference desk to complete your mission and finish the work that Agent A371 started.

We know it’s not much to go on, but if anyone can solve this mystery and complete this mission, it’s you. The fate of the free world rests in your hands.

    Good luck!
