Library launches new philosophy discussion program
First session will explore the question ‘What is the good life?’
– The Paso Robles City Library will launch its newest monthly program, Socrates Cafe, with the inaugural meeting set for Nov. 26 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The first session will explore the question “What is the good life?” and aims to foster civil, in-person dialogue among community members.
Christopher Blicha, a library staff assistant with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of California Santa Barbara, will facilitate the discussion. Blicha designed the program to help participants develop skills for critical yet amicable exploration of ideas with fellow community members.
The event, named after the Greek philosopher Socrates, seeks to revive the art of civil conversation in response to current trends in online discourse.
Registration is required and runs through Nov. 25. Participants must register individually, and the program is open to ages 16 and older. Click here to register and for more information.
