On Dec. 6, 1942, Hope married Kenneth Reid Given at the Friends Church on Coronado Island, San Diego. During World War II, Hope proudly worked as an inspector of airplane parts at Lockheed. Following the war, Hope and Ken settled in the Southern California area, where they raised their four children. They enjoyed many trips to the Southern California deserts, where Hope would make her home for many of her later years.

Hope was always a woman on the move, enjoying a variety of interests and activities. Although born with a physical challenge affecting her hands and feet, she was undeterred, taking up golf, bowling and various artistic pursuits. A longtime member of the High Desert Chaparral Artists, she loved to paint in watercolors and oils. In her late 90s, she created over 100 framed “button-scapes.”

She was the founder of the Yucca Valley and Temecula chapters of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Some of Hope’s favorite daily activities included games of cards and dice.

Once Hope was asked how she would like to be remembered by her family. She responded, “I tried hard to be a good and loving wife, mother and grandmother. I’m proud of my family, and wish them to remember that I love all of you.”

Hope’s family wishes to express gratitude to Family Hospice Care and the many people who helped care for Hope during the last season of her life.
