Live Oak Festival announces full lineup

–The Live Oak Music Festival has announced the full lineup to perform at its annual event. The three-day, family-friendly festival takes place Friday through Sunday, June 21 – 23, 2019 in San Luis Obispo. After 29 years at Live Oak Camp in Santa Barbara County, this year’s concert-goers will enjoy the 31st annual festival at El Chorro Regional Park in San Luis Obispo County.
The festival is held every June to benefit KCBX Public Radio, and features musicians performing a variety of genres, including Afrobeat, soul, folk, gospel, roots rock, Americana and more. The Live Oak Music Festival will draw music aficionados of all ages to experience live concerts in a beautiful setting, with the county’s iconic volcanic peaks, the Morros, as the backdrop. In addition to music, the festival offers a way to kick off summer, with local food, wine and beer for adults and plenty of games, activities and talent shows for children and teens.
The three-day festival kicks off on Friday, June 21 with the Main Stage featuring headliner Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore with The Guilty Ones (American roots music), Shinyribs (country-soul swamp-funk band), T Sisters (Americana indie-folk) and Arthur Watership (experimental folk and Baroque rock). The festival’s side stages showcase local and regional acts, with Stage Too featuring the ska band The Upside, while Brass Mash will bring their powerhouse brass band mash-ups to the late night dance at the Hot Licks Stage. Jamming workshops are held all three days led by master fiddler and teacher Phil Salazar.
Saturday’s lineup on the Main Stage features headliner Antibalas (Afrobeat), Orquesta Akokán (joyous Cuban big band), Soul Scratch (SoCal soul), Shook Twins (indie folk pop), Sunny War (blues folk punk) and Phil Salazar and the Kin Folk (acoustic folk fusion). Stage Too will host Carbon City Lights (groovy indie alt rock), The Sam Chase & The Untraditional (“kick-ass” folk) and True Zion (roots reggae). The popular juggling act, Something Ridiculous, will entertain an afternoon crowd in the Beer Garden. The Hot Licks Stage will feature morning performances by SLO County Stumblers (old time string band) and singer-songwriter Derek Senn, with the high energy band Soul Scratch returning later that night for the dance at the Hot Licks stage.
Sunday’s Main Stage features headliner Brett Dennen with his folk pop and good vibes, Bombino (North African desert rock), John Craigie (Americana singer-songwriter), Moonshiner Collective (indie folk rock ‘n’ soul) and gospel group The Sons of the Soul Revivers.
Stage Too will feature The Ghost of Paul Revere (foot-stompin’ holler folk) and Midtown Social (exclusively inclusive soul). Hot Licks will feature morning performances by The Cimo Brothers (folky classical world rock) and father-daughter duo Chris Beland & Harmony, while the Noach Tangeras Band will play their American roots music at the Beer and Wine Garden in the afternoon.

Live Oak is providing discounted ticket pricing (available online or by calling KCBX) prior to the festival. A Full Festival Pass allows camping and access to the festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Single-day passes are also available for adults, teens (13-17), and children (ages 4 – 12). New this year, the festival is offering Thursday entry for a minimal additional fee with a full festival pass. Tickets and information are available at the festival’s website liveoakfest.org.
