Update March 30: A Paso Robles man who was accused of bank robbery at the Bank of America in San Luis Obispo in July of 2013 was found guilty on Friday, according to a report by the San Luis Obispo District Attorney.

A San Luis Obispo jury found Andrew Gilbertson guilty of both counts with which he was charged – robbery and burglary. According to the report the same jury also found that he was sane when he committed the crimes.

The case has been set for a court trial in front of Judge Donald G. Umhofer in Department 9 on April 20, 2015, for a determination of whether the prior convictions alleged against Mr. Gilbertson are true as alleged. A sentencing date will not be set until the issue of the prior convictions is determined.

Original story posted March 26: On Wednesday, 40-year-old Andrew Gilbertson of Paso Robles, who was on trial for bank robbery, put his hand down his pants, retrieved his feces, and ate it, according to a report by Cal Coast News.

Gilbertson was charged with robbing the San Luis Obispo Bank of America in July of 2013. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, the report said.

Gilbertson reportedly testified that the Virgin Mary had told him to both rob the bank and to eat his feces. A recess was called after the feces eating incident, and a mental health expert would later testify that Gilbertson does indeed hear voices in his head, the report said.
