Local art studio launches new stoneware workshop series
Workshops teach glaze layering and kiln-fired pottery techniques
– ArtSocial 805 announced the launch of a new Stoneware Workshop Series, a collection of classes focused on pottery techniques through guided instruction and experimentation.
The series introduces participants to stoneware by focusing on surface techniques that allow functional pottery to be transformed into individual pieces. Each workshop centers on a specific method.
The first workshop in the series, “The Frozen Pond Technique,” features a process that layers specialty glazes and textures to create glass-like surfaces inspired by natural elements.
Participants select a stoneware piece and follow step-by-step instructions on applying specialty glazes and materials. They experiment with layering techniques designed to produce kiln-fired effects and receive information about firing processes and how transformation occurs in the kiln.
“No two pieces come out the same—that’s the magic of stoneware,” said Karyn Blaney, owner of ArtSocial 805. “This series is about letting go of perfection and embracing the unexpected. It’s where creativity and chemistry collide.”
The workshops are open to all skill levels, including beginners and experienced participants. Each session is designed to provide a setting for participants to create and engage with others.
The Stoneware Workshop Series is part of the studio’s efforts to offer hands-on art experiences within the community.
Workshops take place at ArtSocial 805 in Paso Robles and last about two hours. Materials are included. Upcoming dates are available at the studio’s website.
ArtSocial 805 is a creative studio that offers in-studio and mobile art activities, including pottery painting, mosaics, canvas painting, and specialty workshops.
