Central Coast native and Paso Robles Daily News editor Skye Pratt moonlights as an art teacher

–Central Coast native and Paso Robles Daily News editor Skye Pratt moonlights as an art teacher, and launched a fun, weekly painting class show, the “Paint Along With Skye,” on Youtube in December of 2019.

Pratt has taught hundreds of painting classes for beginners across the central coast through a number of different “Paint and Sip” studios and also taught a number of private events as an artist-for-hire. She launched “Paint Along With Skye” as a way to reach a wider audience, and though the channel is still humble, it has already inspired many new artists to get creative.

Paint Along With Skye videos are G-rated, simple, and Pratt takes you through the project each week step-by-step. She started the “Art Club” Facebook group as a way for artists to post their masterpieces and receive feedback from the instructor and other artists, and also recently launched a Patreon account where patrons can tune in to a live “Q and A-rts,” vote on upcoming concepts and be eligible for supply giveaways.

The first 50 patrons will also receive a copy of her “Acrylic Bootcamp” digital course, a more in-depth paid course where she will demonstrate blending styles, color mixing, and demonstrate key acrylic painting techniques. That course will be available for purchase to the general public in June.

There are currently 24 tutorials on the channel with projects such as acrylics, watercolors, acrylic paint pouring, and enamel glass painting.

“Painting is relaxing, it’s a moving meditation,” said Pratt. “And I am a proponent of ‘art for art’s sake. Everyone should have the right to get creative and be positively supported in doing so. Art is how we express ourselves as humans, and it is important and fundamental. Many of my students have discovered a lifelong passion for art, and now with my channel people have been messaging me from all over the world telling me that they are painting along, and it makes me so happy! I want to make art accessible and fun for everyone!”
