Local businesswoman rescues kittens, donates ‘thank you’ check to hurricane relief

–When a vacationing Texas family needed their motor home serviced during a visit to Paso Robles last spring, they called The Mobile Oil Changers. The family liked the quality of the oil change so much that they scheduled a full detail service. A few days later, when preparing to return to Texas, they heard a thumping noise then little meows when the RV engine started.

Not knowing anyone else in the area, they called The Mobile Oil Changers to get a mechanic’s phone number. Owner, Lisa Marrone, personally drove over to check things out. Marrone, relying on cat rescue experience from her fire department career, crawled inside the engine compartment. An hour later three kittens were rounded up. Tiny noses with minor injuries from the engine cooling fan were cleaned up and the Texas family adopted the kittens.

Marrone declined payment for the assistance. “It was all for a good cause and brought back fond memories of the fire department,” said Marrone. The Texans knew about the Mobile Oil Changers Foundation for natural disaster relief so they insisted on making a donation to the foundation. In late August that donation went full-circle when Marrone gave a donation check for Hurricane Harvey relief to the Red Cross in San Luis Obispo. Marrone said she checked in with the family around the same time to be sure they were safe and to let them know their donation was back in Texas. Marrone said she is happy to report that the family and kittens were in Oregon and safe. Marrone said the Mobile Oil Changers Foundation does not yet have a website, but anyone interested in donating can call the office for more information (805) 238-2099.
