–Over one hundred children and their parents turned out to enjoy a free holiday event offered by the staff of the Paso Robles Recreation Department at Centennial Park on Wednesday. The Holiday Open House, a way of encouraging local children and their parents to get into the holiday spirit, was a success.

“We are just excited to celebrate the holidays with the community with this family event,” said Heather Stephenson, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Paso Robles. “We had a great turn-out and I could not be more thrilled.”

In addition to the event being an opportunity for parents to meet various recreation instructors and find answers to questions about classes for children, adults, and families, there was plenty of fun to be had. Kids and adults alike enjoyed sharing their wish list with Santa, playing an Olaf corn-hole game, joining in on a Santa hat ring toss, drinking hot chocolate, and decorating sugar cookies with their fair share of icing and sprinkles.

“Paso Robles students at the Culinary Academy prepared 100 Christmas tree and Gingerbread Man cookies and icing for us,” said Stephenson. “It was so fun to watch the families gather together to decorate the cookies – there were a lot of happy faces.”

Recreation instructors from Kidz Love Soccer, Kinder Musik and the Baby Seals Swim programs offered a variety of holiday games, led children in craft projects, and invited attendees to enjoy music and movement activities. One of the most popular activities – a photo booth equipped with props galore – had families posing and snapping pictures throughout the afternoon.

“It’s been a lot of fun today,” said Kidz Love Soccer Regional Manager Isaias Rosas. “We have enjoyed playing mini-games with the children and sharing information about our year-round soccer programs.”
