Local dance benefit raises $5,055 for epilepsy research

    – The North County Dance & Performing Arts Foundation announced that this year’s EPIC benefit production raised $5,055 for the LGS Foundation, supporting research and families affected by Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy.

The Emerging Performers in Concert event was held at the Templeton Performing Arts Center and featured local dancers, professional artists, and performing companies from across California.

Proceeds from ticket sales were donated directly to the LGS Foundation, which funds research, raises awareness, and provides support to families living with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. The condition is a childhood-onset epilepsy that causes frequent seizures that can be difficult to control and can lead to lifelong disability.

“This production represents what is possible when artists and community members come together for a cause greater than themselves,” said Rachel Connerton, director of the production. “We are incredibly grateful to every performer, team member, volunteer, and audience member who made this impact possible.”

According to organizers, the event also aims to teach young artists about compassion, service, and using their talents to support others.

The North County Dance & Performing Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works to make dance and performing arts accessible to youth in San Luis Obispo County through performances, scholarships, and community outreach. Through its productions and partnerships, the organization provides opportunities for young artists and participates in community programs.

More information about the LGS Foundation is available at www.lgsfoundation.org.
