–North County natives Curtis and Karli Twisselman have started their own salsa business, “Best Ever Salsa Company” selling fresh salsa in glass mason jars.

They sell three different varieties: Family Style, the mild version; Original, the medium version, and SLO Burn, the hot version.best ever salsa

The Twisselmans say they have been making salsa for the past 15 years for family and friends and have given many jars away as Christmas gifts. With the support of their family and friends they decided to start selling the salsa in October of 2015.

“It’s been a great journey so far, learning the process of getting it register with the California State Health Department as a processed food product, and getting the different certifications and permits you need to operate,” Karli says, “but it’s been worth it, we have learned a lot and have met some amazing new friends.”

“We encourage others, if you think you have something great, and want to turn it into a business, get it out there!” Curtis says. “We’ve been blessed on how successful it has been in a relatively short time. We’ve received many comments from so many wonderful people telling us how good the salsa is, saying ‘it really is the best ever!’ That’s how we came up with the name. It’s a bold name, it encourages people to taste it to put it to the test and we back it up. And it goes great with everything: tri-tip, chicken, pork as well as for breakfast with eggs and breakfast burritos. I have friends to just drink it by itself!”

They currently sell at Food 4 Less stores in Paso Robles, Atascadero and San Luis Obispo in the produce section, J&R Natural Meats, Vivant Fine Cheese, The Giant Sub, House of Bagel, First Class Café at the Paso Robles Airport, DePalo & Sons in Shell Beach and California Fresh Markets in Pismo Beach. The most common size is the 16 ounce glass mason jar, but they also sell 8 ounce, 32 ounce, half and one gallon jars. In honor of the upcoming NFL Super bowl Game, they are having a bulk special: a half gallon for $25 and one gallon for $45.

They will be giving away free samples at a few local upcoming events. On February 20 and 21, they will be at the Inspired Home Show at the Paso Robles Event Center. They will head to the SLO Beer Festival on February 26 and 27 at the Alex Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo, and then the Templeton Beer Festival on May 15 at Templeton Community Park.
