Local hiker, photographer releases book, ‘Botanical Reflections’

–Spending the last three years locally, international hiker and wildflower photographer Doris Lance’s hiking and exploring experiences has been released in a new book, titled Botanical Illustrations, published by WestBow Press, a division of Thomas Nelson and Zondervan.

Focused on capturing each day with a reflective question, an inspiring quote, and an opportunity to create a colored wildflower illustration, hand-drawn by the author, Botanical Reflections is available at Amazon.com, barnes&noble.com, and westbowpress.com.

Lance’s love and respect for the natural environment began hiking with family and friends in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. “Although the beginnings were small, my desire to explore nature continued with hiking adventures on the Machu Picchu trail in Peru; to Torres de Paine in Chile; Scotland’s northern highlands; and Wildrose and Telescope Peaks in Death Valley,” she added.

The Erigeron glaucus- or Seaside Aster: Each plant produces up to 15 heads, each with a large number of rays in white to pale lavender. Leaves are fleshy and spoon-shaped to ovate. Very common in sand dunes and on coastal bluffs. Captured at Hearst San Simeon State Park-San Simeon Trail.

These numerous discoveries of flowering plants in the varied ecosystems are featured in the book and will be on exhibition at the Paso Robles Public Library, Paso Robles as the feature artist, from April 1 to April 30.

She is currently an Emeritus instructor for Cuesta College in Paso Robles, CA and holds a bachelor of arts degree from Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, N.C. and additional certifications from Vanderbilt University and University of San Diego, Ca.
