Update: Local MMA fighter wins championship belt

Mixed Martial Arts fighter Chris Elisarraras, 24, of Paso Robles won a featherweight championship belt Friday night at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia, Calif. He defeated Samuel Fierro, 25, of Fresno, in a unanimous judges’ decision after three rounds of vigorous fighting. Watch a video of the fight here.

The event, 559FIGHTS, is a California Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Organization (CAMO) sanctioned amateur event. Fighters are matched in weight classes. The featherweight class is for fighters 135-145 pounds.

“This was one of the most difficult and rewarding fights so far,” Elisarraras said after the fight.  “I am more than happy with the end result, and looking forward to my next title fight! Local MMA fighter headed to Visalia for title fight

–Paso Robles native Chris Elisarraras will participate in a Mixed Martial Arts fight on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia, Calif. Doors open at 6 p.m., fighting starts at 7 p.m.

The event is a California Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Organization (CAMO) sanctioned amateur event and fighters are matched in weight classes. Elisarraras, 24, from team Knock Out Boxing, will face off against David Mendoza, 25,  for the featherweight class of 135 to 145 pounds. It’s a title fight for the featherweight belt.

“I took this fight on one-week’s notice but very excited to get back after my injury,” Elisarraras. In his last fight, in June, Elisarraras injured his left arm.

That night, Elisarraras won his fight at the Evolution Sports Expo in Twentynine Palms in front of a Marine Corps audience. Fighting in the bantamweight class of 125-135 pounds, the 24-year-old beat Daniel Robles, 18, of west Sacramento, on the judges’ cards after the fight went all three rounds. The judges all scored the fight 30 to 28 for Elisarraras.
